Adapting to Indirect Source Rules through Emissions Monitoring

Recently implemented and currently proposed government regulations across the country mandate emissions reporting requirements and mitigation fees for warehouse trucking operations. The South Coast Air Quality Monitoring District (AQMD) WAIRE Program aims to reduce nitrogen oxide and diesel emissions associated with warehouses in California Inland Empire, while the New York State Senate is also reviewing similar Indirect Source Rules legislation.

Indirect Source Rules aim to regulate and reduce emissions stemming from trucking operations at warehouses greater than a certain size. This requires mandated reporting of truck arrivals and departures, dwell times, and truck type. This information calculates the environmental impact and determines mitigation fees used to implement green technologies like EV charging infrastructure.

What Trapezoid Captures at the Gate

Upon arrival at the gate, Trapezoid extracts all currently required fields through computer vision and machine sensing:

• Date and time of truck arrival
• Truck license plate number
• Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
• Department of Transportation Number (DOT)
• Truck fuel type (natural gas, electric, hydrogen)
• Trucking company name and contact information
• Driver name and contact information

Once collected, this information is stored securely in the cloud for compliant record keeping. Per WAIRE regulations, records must be maintained for 7 years following submission.
